Farmer: Gauck An, Crop: Red Pepper, Area: 0.98 acres, Status: 2nd year of organic conversion, Location: Yeongyang, Gyeongbuk

Mr. Gauck An, standing in his pepper farm with a big smile.

When culturing JMS, the initial cultivation performed after winter passes is the most crucial step. Once that first culturing process succeeds, subsequent batches proceed smoothly without difficulty.

However, during one particular season, Mr. An struggled as the JMS failed to produce vigorous foam despite trying various methods. He attempted several interventions, such as adding extra leaf mold soil, but none proved effective. Following advice from Dr. Youngsang Cho, he filled the container with water and ran an air injector for 24 hours prior to culturing. To his surprise, the microbial solution cultured vigorously right away.

If adding extra leaf mold soil or other methods fail to yield satisfactory microbial growth, running an air injector beforehand is highly recommended. However, the air injector should only be used during the initial stage when preparing the raw water. It must be turned off once leaf mold soil and potato starch are added to begin the cultivation process.
