Sa-kyun Kim (Icheon, Gyeonggi-do), Greenhouse Chrysanthemums ≈ 2.5 acres, 4th Year of Ultra-Low Cost Farming
Sa-kyun Kim continuously cultures JADAM Microorganism Solution (JMS) to control pests on his chrysanthemum farm of about 2.5 acres. He initially used a standard immersion heater ("pig tail") to adjust the temperature, but it broke down frequently. After removing the heater's internal sensor and installing a separate temperature controller, there have been no breakdowns, and he has completely eliminated the stress of maintaining the temperature.
At first, moving the microbes from the culturing tank to the pesticide tank was extremely difficult. He built a unified system that connects the JMS tank directly to the pesticide tank, the fogging system, and the soil drenching tank. He is now using it with great ease. It is convenient to store all the tools needed for making JMS on a cart and push it around for use.
When making JMS, he adds 500g of leaf mold soil, 500g of salt, and 500g of starch to 500L of water. He also adds 200g (about 2 handfuls) of "Heuksal-i" compost. Using a microbial starter (leaving a small amount of previous JMS) enables more vigorous culturing.
Foam that is resilient and restores itself even when touched by hand. For vigorous microbial culture, adding "Heuksal-i" compost and about 50L of microbial starter to the basic conditions produces JMS with large, viscous foam within 20 hours.
