Changseol Lee named his farm Tree Frog Farm because the area was filled with green tree frogs, which became the farm’s symbol. The frogs were always jumping around the beds, a sign of a healthy ecosystem. However, during a winter crop season, severe aphid infestations forced him to use several organic commercial inputs. The result was shocking: the frogs vanished, and Lee realized something was deeply wrong. “This isn’t right,” he thought. That awareness changed everything. Because his greenhouse stands beside a rice paddy, the humidity is high and slugs used to thrive. At night, they were so dense it looked as if white flowers had bloomed across the lettuce beds. Compared with the organic commercial pesticides he once bought, costing nearly $296 per month, his costs dropped dramatically. Making JMP is simple: collect water, mix in leaf mold soil, culture the microbes, add decyl glucoside, and spray. Repeat the process, and success naturally follows. For Lee, Tree Frog Farm now thrives again, tree frogs hopping, lettuce lush and green, and no need for chemical pesticides.
