The body length of a non-winged female wooly apple aphid adult is around 2.1 mm. It is covered with white cotton all over its body. Its head is dark green and has white feelers. Its legs are yellow-brown, its belly is red-brown and there is cotton on it. The body length of a winged female wooly apple aphid is around 2.3 mm when it spreads its wings, it is around 6.3 mm. Its head is black. Its eggs are 0.55 mm and cylindrical but sometimes you can find an egg-shaped one. The body length of stem mother is 0.55 mm and green.

Wooly apple aphid stays in a group, sucks the juice and make a gall. Especially, it damages the area where has cuts, the edge of leafstalk, or cracked stem. It also makes a gallon the new bud and make leaves into yellow simultaneously.

It appears 10 times a year and stays over the coldest season on the cracked stem or near the root as a nymph. From May, it moves up to leaves and branches and grows. It appears most during July and slowly disappears from the end of August. Wooly apple aphid adult spawns eggs by parthenogenesis and repeats it. Its nymph does not have excreta which looks like cotton on its back until it grows up. There are two types of a wooly apple aphid adult; winged and non-winged one. Before it becomes an adult, it molts 5 times.

In 1920, Wooly apple aphid was successfully controlled by its predator, wooly apple aphid parasitoid. Recently, organic apple orchards use this method again.
