Bugs/Flies in JLF: Good or Bad?!?

So I’m making a hemp JLF and I have it in a large trash can with a lid, but it’s Not sealed off and bugs/flies have gotten into it all! Is this bad? Should I get a container I can seal better, like a large barrel with a twisting lid? It’s a lot of bugs and flies too
