Jadam JS - phyllite substitute?

In my country (the Netherlands) I do not have access to phyllite, however I can find red clay. I have read you can make JS without any red clay and phyllite. However, I am curious wether you are able to substitute the phyllite with volcanic rock dust or basalt?
