Gauck An, who grows the local Subicho red pepper variety in Subi-myeon, Yeongyang-gun, decided to take up farming after coming across JADAM lecture videos and chose Yeongyang, the famous home of red peppers, as his farming location. On his 0.98-acre field, he applied 300 bags of Heuksari compost as base fertilizer and planted 8,000 pepper plants.

The JADAM Liquid Fertilizer (JLF) passes through three filtration units as it moves from the storage tanks to the field. Because the filters are cleaned promptly after each use, there are no issues with nozzle clogging.

Solving Nutrient Deficiencies with Compost-Infused JLF Tea

During his twice-weekly fertigation sessions, Mr. An applies approximately 500 L of custom-made JLF tea each time. He creates this JLF tea by combining a diverse blend of liquids made from fish, red pepper crop residue, bone meal, oyster shell powder, phyllite, and fermented urine, and then infusing it with Heuksari compost. In the past, when using JLF alone, neighbors often commented that his crops appeared nutrient-deficient. However, after he began brewing and generously applying this compost-infused JLF tea, he stopped experiencing any nutrient shortages in his red peppers.

Expanding Market Access for Eco-Friendly Subicho Peppers Through Direct Sales

Although Yeongyang-gun purchases local peppers, it is difficult to secure premium pricing for eco-friendly produce through standard purchasing channels. Consequently, Mr. An focuses heavily on direct-to-consumer sales. He operates the YouTube channel 'Yeongyang Gauck An Farm', connects it with a Naver Smart Store, and sells his harvested peppers at the Yeongyang Pepper Festival held in Seoul. Informing consumers about the cultivation process and securing independent sales channels serve as vital strategies for eco-friendly pepper farming.

Searching for 'Yeongyang Gauck An Farm' on YouTube allows viewers to discover Mr. An's eco-friendly Subicho red peppers grown in Yeongyang.
