The female adult measures about 9.8 mm, while the male adult is slightly smaller at 8.7 mm. This species closely resembles the green stink bug (Nezara antennata) but is smaller in body size and distinguished by a transverse stripe pattern on the pronotum (thorax).
Nymphs pass through 5 instars. The lifespan of female adults is about 53 days, while that of males is about 38 days. Females lay approximately 450–500 eggs in total, usually in two rows arranged in circular clusters on soybean leaves or pods.
Although once known to be distributed mainly in southern regions, its range has expanded to central regions due to climate warming. Along with Riptortus pedestris (bean bug), it is considered one of the major insect pests of leguminous crops.
