Making JMS at lower temperatures
2022-04-20 05:52:01 | read: 2321
Hi,
I live in a part of the United States that rarely has night time temperatures over 64F (18C) even in the middle of summer. For various reasons I can't very easily heat the JMS solutions while they are culturing - I don't have enough power outlets for one. I'm happy to experiment with producing JMS at lower temperatures but I was wondering if anyone had any experience doing this and had any tricks for success. Perhaps any non electrical methods for keeping the JMS warm at night. I'd like to keep my JMS and JLF production outdoors.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Brendan

It seems to be possible by placing the microbial culture vessel under the sun, increasing the water temperature, and warming the vessel with a warming agent in the afternoon. thank you.

agree with the comment to use the sun. Water has very high heat capacity. what size batch of JMS are you making? Here is a simple plan for heating 5-gallon (20 liter) bucket of water: https://www.builditsolar.com/Projects/WaterHeating/BucketBatch/BucketBatch.htm
