Soil improvement

My soil permeability is very bad. And that is seem as no any nutrition. How do I improve my soil? except irrigate the JMS, what can I do? I think my soil is clay, can I turn it to loam?

    The soil will be very good if you apply compost that contains a lot of sawdust and use JMS frequently.
