Durian rinds (shell/husk) Part 2
2023-07-24 17:56:48 | read: 3722
Hi Master Cho,

Previously you instruct us to just spread the raw durian husk/skin to our farm, which we will be following at our new farm (10 acres)

1) We are clearing this new land(undisturbed land for the last 4 years) now and we will be using the grass and weeds to act as cover/blanket just by pressing down all these greens using the bulldozer/tractors.

2) After that we will be shredding durian skins/husk and spreading the small shredded skins thru out the new land (200tons of skins)

3) We will spray 12,000L of JMS water solution (20x dilution) to all these grass/weeds/skin/husk thru our mini-sprinklers to cover all the 10acres every 2 weeks for the next 2 months ( 4 times ), total 48,000L of JMS water solution.

My questions are;
a) if the land is undisturbed for so long, will there be leaf molds that can handle all of ITEM (b) without executing ITEM (3)?
b) how long should we leave this new land for all of ITEM(2) to breakdown fully?
(c) if we execute ITEM(3) , how much quicker will it be to go for transplanting after all of ITEM(2) breakdown fully?

    Thanks for the reassurance and advices.
    The soil is slightly on the high side with clay (50%) & we hope with the additional grass/weed and durian shells can increase more OM into the composition. The only reason we wanted to spray JMS is to try to reduce the time taken to convert this land faster. Maybe within 1-2 months so we can start our transplanting faster.
    We may introduce controlled release fertilizer(6mths once) around the planting hole which reduce the fertilizing labor. Thanks again

      Soil microbes are also expected to be very rich in uncontaminated wild soil. It is judged that there will be no problem in decomposing durian shells without using JMS. Generally, after 3 months, the soil is ready for planting. It's hard to say exactly about durian skins.
