Ricanid plant hopper - JADAM Organic Farming

Spot clothing wax cicada, citrus flatid plant hopper, ricanid plant hopper which are foreign pest surely cause problems the present year as well. This is considered to associate with the climate change. Ricanid plant hopper was first found around forest and orchard in Gongjoo, Chongnam in 2010. From that time, it made farmers suffer. There were several apple orchards closed due to ricanid plant hopper. Some of the farmer started to farm different crops. According to thesis, it damages 138 types of plant. However, the study found that it harms to every kind of plants. Not only it damages to fruit trees, and trees (except, needleleaf tree), but also vegetable, harbaceous plant, and taxaceae. Even though the government is trying to manage about this matter, the density of ricanid plant hopper does not decrease. Therefore, this is important to prevent from early May while observing plants carefully.

The Ricanid plant hopper adult is dark brown and the body length is 8.2~8.7 mm. The nymph's body length is around 4.5 mm and the nymph forms white or yellow waxy substance centrically from anus.

† Around early May to middle of May, it hatchs out from wintering egg and start to damage from behind a leaf in a group.

A branch drys up and die, if ricanid plant hopper adult spawns on it. The adult and nymph suck juice of leaves and young branch and it can cause sooty mold.

It appears once a year and it spawns inside of a branch. It stay coldest season as eggs. The nymph appears from middle of May to middle of August. The adult appears from middle of July to middle of November. It generally spawns in 2 rows on 1 year old branch. After spawning, it covers the branch mixed with sawdust and white cotton.
